FJ-09 Suspension Upgrade

Unread postby LeeDavis » Tue Aug 16, 2016 10:39 am

This coming January my FJ-09 will be 2 years old so I decided to retire the stock suspension and do an upgrade. The usual suspects Ohlins and Cogent both let me down so I went with a JRI shock and Forks by Matt in VA. JRI opened a major facility in Mooresville - http://www.jrishocks.com/

I received and installed the shock - waiting for delivery of my forks.

Cool! I have heard that JRI Shocks have been doing some really great stuff!

JRI is a new one on me. Nice to know there are new (and maybe more cost effective?) alternatives. So how does it handle with the new rear shock?

What adjustability does it have?

I purchased their model with remote reservoir, ride height, preload, compression and rebound adjustment - what they call double adjustable. http://www.jrishocks.com/shop/powerspor ... djustable/ They also offer a single and a triple with remote preload adjuster but I don't need that. Cost is pretty much the same as the equivalent from Ohlins or Penske so no bargains. However, Ohlins only offers their low end shock without remote reservoir or rebound adjustment for the FJ-09 and Penske isn't located in our neighborhood like JRI so I went with JRI.

My forks aren't back from Matt the suspension guy in VA so I haven't ridden the bike yet.

Dang--all the bells and whistles--def more for the buck than Ohlins. So the FZ and FJ use the same rear shock?

So why would you not want adjustable pre-load? I guess I see a big enough difference on load between hooligan riding here and Sport Touring with luggage full.

The preload is adjustable but not with a remote. I never ride 2-up and so rarely carry luggage that for me a remote is an unnecessary complication.
