I had a great time attending a long weekend, Thu-Sun, rally for small dual sport bikes at the Pipestem Resort Park in WV. WV is north of the heat wave and it only rained at night so weather was nice with cool temps, especially at altitude.
I drove the DRZ to and from the rally and my concerns about taking the bike x-country were unfounded. It can zip along happy as can be at 65 on country roads all day and even a short stretch on I-77 at 70+ was no problem.
The rally was a blast and I got to tag along with trail riders more experienced than myself through obstacles well beyond my comfort zone. By some miracle I never went down but several times it was nothing more than dumb beginners luck.
Wooden bridges in WV aren't quaint tourist attractions.
On a mud climb don't follow too close.
