Intro - John

Unread postby jwryaniii » Tue Oct 03, 2017 8:25 pm

Hello All!
My name is John Ryan.
I have been riding bikes for 22+ years, from my first 1984 Honda CB700SC to my latest toy, a 2017 BMW GS1200.
I am originally from NJ, but have lived in the Carolinas most of my adult life. Went to college at Virginia Tech (GO HOKIES!!) and then stayed in the south!
I learned to ride between Shelby and the BRP in the mid 90's and have loved these roads ever since!!
I still have the 2006 HD Softail my father passed on to me, but sport touring is my next new adventure.
I am looking to learn from the best to further my hobby and my skill level. Even taking a class at the BMW performance center later this month!!
Hope to see you all on a ride!! Stay safe!!!

My new GS does so many things I have never done/had on a bike, I need a class to teach me!!
I've got almost 1500 miles on her so far and I am in love! I just want to learn ALL of her capabilities!!
I will be happy to share any/everything I can!

Keep checking the Upcoming Rides thread. Usually something once a week. I get out when I can on weekdays - the work thing tends to interfere. One of the most common rally points is the Gate Gas Station in Morganton (823 N Green St aka Hwy 181 for your GPS) and the Halfway Hardware Store (Bob will have to tell you where that is).

Halfway Hardware is 1/4 Mile north of where NC 10 and NC18 meet in Vale NC.

I used to live several places in Cleveland County....Shelby, Polkville, and even Casar...
I now live in Gastonia, but Cleveland County is my gateway to the mountains!!
90% or more of my riding leads me thru that area. Is that where you are located?

I know EXACTLY where this is! One of my favorite unpublished roads is NC Old 18, just up the road from here.
I was actually there 2 weekends ago on my way to 181 and the BRP.

Kinda funny, I actually stopped there to get gas 2 weekends ago on my way up 181 to the BRP. Met the photographer who is now taking pics on 181, just north of the scenic view pull off.
I will keep checking the threads, I want to ride with someone this coming Sunday as I will be out of town next weekend.
