California Superbike School

Unread postby dans » Wed Dec 16, 2020 10:03 pm

Matt and I will be attending classes at the California Superbike School on Monday, August 2, 2020 at Virginia International Raceway. I took my first class 20 years ago at Blackhawk Farms Raceway outside of Chicago and have been back many times since. The last class I attended was at Willow Springs in CA. To me, its the single best way to improve your riding skills and always learn something new. Matt will be going for the first time. There are limited spots to take your own bike on the track. If you want to use their bike (2020 S1000RR), they have more spots available. We are going to ride up and use our own bikes for the class.

I thought it would be fun for a group of us to go so I posted our plans.

Thanks. -Dan

I have been looking for a motorcycle training that could help us all improve our riding... not necessarily make us faster but to correct the little things that we do improperly. I’ve noted that all of us could make adjustments in our riding that I believe would make it safer and more fun. Is this Keith Code that training? I took a very early Keith Code school at Mid Ohio on one of their bikes. It was very beneficial. But at that time I kind of wanted to go racing. I don’t want to go racing anymore.
Dan what book have you been suggesting that we read. I can’t remember the name.

Clik the link and read it--definitely not a racing course. Unless you wanna make it one.

The 4 levels of classes are designed to make you a better, faster and safer rider, whether for the street or the track. It's been my experience that most of the people taking classes are there to improve on the street. I can say that my riding skill when up 1000000% after taking the classes.

To Dave's point, the personal instruction helps iron out some inconsistencies in riding mechanics. For example, the last two classes I took allowed me to focus on body position. If you watch me ride, I move around on the bike but always keeping it stable at all times. This I learned at the school

The book I encourage everyone to read is called "The Art of Riding Smooth" by Jim Ford. Jim lives in Virginia, not far from Burkes Garden. His book focuses on how to ride in the mountains, and writes about the very same roads we all love.

Scott that's great! We are planning on riding up on Sunday morning and staying overnight in a hotel by the track.

I just signed up for Level 1 on May 4th at VIR. I went for May instead August in hopes that it will be a little cooler then. I'm not going to sign up for Level 2 just yet.

I think it will be a great way to have fun and to improve my riding.

Ya'll should join us.

Brick

PS: Chris Jernigan also signed up for Level 1 on May 34th... he is not on the COFSTA forum. <squid> <bana>
PSS: We did May 4th because Jernigan can't do May 3rd,

I have cancelled my August California Superbike class. I have signed up for a BMW class which is more street oriented.

Cool! Are you riding their bike? On/off road or on only?
