Hatfield-McCoy Trails Spring 2018

Unread postby LeeDavis » Mon Jan 01, 2018 1:14 pm

I mentioned this trip in Brick's Happy New Year thread but here it is again. Greg and I are planning a Hatfield-McCoy trails trip this Spring. http://www.trailsheaven.com/

Spring weather has rain so we're going to try to make it work on short notice during a forecast of dry weather. It'll probably be a half day trailering the bikes to the trail area then 2-3 days of riding. The Hatfield-McCoy trails include 7 different trail areas, and for practical purposes it looks like around 3 of them can be accessed from whatever hotel or cabin we get in southwest WV. All the trails look good so any of them will do.

You guys need to get in on this dual sport action. Doing only street riding is ignoring half the fun!

Sounds like fun. If someone had a $10,000 500-EXC to loan me I'd tag along. <muaha>

The Japanese dual sport bikes sell for around $6500 but they're 20 year old designs. If you look at their latest top of the line dirt bikes then prices are $9000+. If they were to add lights, emissions, wide ratio transmission, etc to make them streetable then the EXC price sounds about the same. I'm not saying it's cheap but it is what it is.

No doubt the Jap DS offerings are still dusty old parts bin bikes. Nice that KTM is the innovator. IF I ever get another DS it will be 1) fuel injected 2) extremely light weight. <olfart>
