2005 BMW K1200S

It is with great sadness that I sell this bike. Unfortunately, I wrecked the crap out of it on the Dragon, thankfully at a speed that was relatively sane. I managed to hit a spot of slippery fluid on a right hand corner and threw it down into a ravine. The majority of damage is secondary to the wench required to retrieve the bike, and appears to be relatively superficial, although likely still expensive. I did manage to find the one section of road without trees and so there is no apparent impact / collision damage, although I did not watch the bike as I went feet first down the hill. The engine turned off almost immediately via safety feature so I do not expect internal damage. I sustained only a bruised ego. I would repair the bike and ride it, myself, but my responsible side is asking me to move on to a new project with a shorter wheelbase, lower weight, and less power that will attack curves with a higher margin for error and overall lower cost while improving the fun quotient.

Here are the details:
Granite 2005 BMW K1200S now at 68K miles. Bike ran great prior to accident, lots of aftermarket parts including full titanium Remus exhaust ($2000+ new), STM slipper clutch ($1,000+new) and new BMW clutch plates installed at 36K, K&N air filters, Shorai lithium battery ($200), Adaptiv TPX v2 modular radar detector (hardwired, detector may not work due to accident but can likely just replace the unit), clear LED turn signals, HID low beam headlight, Kaoko throttle lock. OEM heated grips, ABS brakes, Ohlins suspension front and rear, Rick Mayer saddle, helmet lock, 2 keys, Bestem carbon fiber battery cover and rear fairing look good. New airbox and idle air control valve replaced (due to known issues) at 30K miles.

Just serviced at 66K miles at Carolina BMW in Greensboro. All service done there since purchased Jan 2011 with 24,xxx miles on it, have all records of services. Recently added Moto Zen breakaway levers, 85mm Verholen bar risers, Rowe electronics power distribution module pdm60, new custom length clutch and throttle cables at the last service, powder coated wheels, spare rear wheel. Nearly new T30 front, Q3 rear, and Angel GT rear (on spare rim). I have a new Pilot Road 2 at home that will go with the bike.

Known damage includes brake pedal (possibly can be bent back or ridden as is), bent shifter side rearset, both clutch and front brake reservoirs broken during retrieval and possibly master cylinders, headlight housing (HID low beam and one high beam remains functional). Upper fairing stay needs replacement. Upper, mid, and belly fairings need replacement . Aftermarket tail light broken. Hard bags although one hinge is broke on one of the bags, but they do open / close / lock. The bike does run / start, although was not driven. It rolls without issue.

Spare parts not on bike during accident and could be used to almost fully rebuild the bike include:
OEM control panel covers, OEM battery cover, OEM tail light, OEM and MRA Vario windscreens, original frame sliders (inside fairing), original belly pan (right side cracked, left side rashed), OEM bar end weight, spare seat, Helibars, OEM handlebars, original clutch basket and plates, original front brake and clutch levers, original ESA suspension with too many miles, clean NC title.

I am including a brief list of interesting parts that would be needed to make the bike relatively whole and cool again. Total $3161

Ben told us about the crash yesterday. Major bummer. But glad you walked away, cudda been MUCH worse! Craigslist should move it out pretty quickly. Any pics from the "event"?

As I mentioned to Ben, the biggest thing that bothers me is I wasn't pushing, or dragging my knee, or braking, or grinding hard parts, or off line.... until the front end washed out. I had almost completed the turn and then down she goes. Thankful I could walk away.

I put the FJR down w/o doing anything wrong, too. Some sand on the road in the middle of the turn did it. Front washed out and down I went. Bob had the best view, lol. I saw the sand and tried to break and make a maneuver but did not react fast enough to miss it. Bummer. Sorry you had so much damage to the bike but at least you are in one piece. Good luck with the sale.

The adjustable windscreens are fantastic. I would probably just buy the Xcreen component and use the MRA vario I already have, on second thought. I dunno. My buddy has the bike right now and is egging me on to put it back together. Perhaps like this:

I'm sure the repair costs could be cut down if I am patient and find mostly used parts on ebay. I don't really NEED new rotors and calipers just yet.
