TIRES-post all tire stuff here, the never-ending tire thread--how big can it get? <grin>

Uh-oh. I just finished with AMT--forever. Will never order from them again. They don't list their tele # so you're forced to email them to find out whats going on. They shorted my rear tire, no communication and no excuse why not. I finally got them by email and it took another week to get it. Nagonna deal with anyone who doesn't list their phone #. Screw those bastards!

They usually have plenty of stock shipping out of Charlotte so I get my order next day. However, last order was DRZ front/rear TKC80s and the front tire came from their facility out west and took a week to get here.

Yup--they shipped my rear from AZ also. My guess is they have cash-flow problems and are not paying on time to some of the distributors they drop-ship from, so their credit has been cut off. Too many red flags---no communication, no shipment, no excuses, no telephone...but they sure as shit billed my Visa for both tires the same day I placed the order! Won't surprise me to see them go away soon.

EDIT: Just checked the mfg date on the PR3 I just got from them--Jan 26, 2012. So its 2 yrs 8 mos old. I thought it looked kinda shopworn.

How much $ for the PR3. I have been using Motorcyclesuperstore they are pretty quick and have a warehouse in KY I think.
My rear is looking like I only have one good ride left on it. Damn I just changed out tires a month ago trying to finish off this tire I had on before my trip in June.
I'm thinking Friday for me.

I uses jakewilson.com for my last set of tires. Quick ship and good price.

$149 from AMT compared to $177 elsewhere. But I won't be dealing with them any longer. <pissed>

That's a good price......if you order long enough before you might need it. I'm thinking of giving the Metzler a try around here. I know it ant last like it did on the trip but if I get half that will beat the Michelin's.

Metzlers have this awful problem of sliding around and poor feedback. Buy q3s and you won't be sorry. I have a couple pilot power fronts I won't be using if anyone is interested. Brand new. Mfg dates in 2013

What are q3's? Okay you convinced me to not go w the Metzler for our style of riding but they are a good touring tire.

Q3 is dunlops race/street tire. Like a pilot power. Soft and grippy but wear quicker than the sport touring tires. I've been very pleased with my Michelin Pilot Road 2's.

Sorry to hear you guys are having trouble with AMT. I ordered a new Conti-motion rear Monday and it was on my bike Tuesday nite! You know you can't beat their prices but if you don't get service, oh well. I did a price per mile comparisioin on Conti's vs PR2's. Pr2's lasted 5100 miles vs 2500 for Conti's. PR2 cpm is .057 cents and Contii is .029 if you change the front everyother time. If both Conti's are changed, it is .051 cents. My rear wears twice as fast as the front. I know y'all have different wear as some are more agressive than me but these are "my" numbers. Just thought I'd put it out there. <2cents>
Thursday or Friday is fine for me.

Just put a PR3 rear on the Bandit last week, and priced both AMT and Competition Accessories; FWIW CompAcc was twenty-nine cents cheaper (yay!) and I had it the following day.

Date code is 5013, coulda been better but certainly not "bad".

Jim, what does a PR2 rear cost for you vs. a Conti rear? What size tire is that? Not sure I understand the math.... <olfart>

The math is simple. It cost x dollars for a set of tires and you get x miles on them before you replace them. If a set cost $148 and you ride 2600 miles, it is at a cost of .056 cents per mile. If you pay $286 per set and you ride 5000 miles before you replace them, it's .057 cents per mile. If you need to replace only the rear tire half as often with the $148 set, well you do the math. My head hurts.
Set Size= 120/70/17 frontand 180/55/17 rear.
I'm just saying that it costs about the same to run the much softer Conti-motions with better "stick" than the PR2's that are harder and are a little slick for the heavy FJR. My preference.

OK, now I got it. So the cost per mile is virtually the same for the rear, $.035 for the Conti and $.033 for the PR2. I was reading your first post as saying the CPI for the Conti was about 1/2 that of the PR2. Well, if it handles THAT much better, I guess maybe its worth changing the tire twice as often. But I wouldn't wanna do it.

Changing tires twice as often is no biggy. 1 hour per tire.
FWIW, the last set of tires (Conti-Motions) I ordered from Compacc and it took 13 days to get them!!!! I went to Rock Hill store for them and they did not have them in stock, sooooo... That's why I tried American Motorcycle Tire this time. Fast and cheaper than Compacc. I hope I don't have issues like you had, Bob. Bummer.

Conti Motions - I do like the feel - they run a true track in a corner - but I'm getting 1800-2000K per rear tire. But they are cheap ! Angel GTs over the winter.

Jeez, I would be doing good to get 1500 miles then. This bike eats rear tires like crazy. I think the rear tires on the GS's prior to the water-cooled 2013 model are under-sized for the weight of the bike. They increased the size for the 2013's but the new bike doesn't weigh any more.

Don't know that it was a "D222" specifically, but I have run the Roadsmart II rear (190/55 17) on the Bandit.

Mileage was good, and it never slipped wet or dry; it was clearly unhappy being paired with a PR3 front (and yet, just fine with a Diablo front) so I pulled it a little before its' time.

Also had the 1st generation Roadsmart rear on my Hayabusa, and had good service from it.
