MyRoute GPX Route Maker

Unread postby LeeDavis » Fri Sep 15, 2017 5:40 pm

The popular and easy to use TyreToTravel GPX route maker has evolved into the multi-platform application MyRoute.

https://www.myrouteapp.com/en

I registered for the free version and it includes everything I need to create and save GPX routes. My favorite feature is that in addition to displaying the usual Google Maps, MyRoute has a layer function to use other maps including OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap has a lot of trail and forest service road detail that I use for dual sport routes.

Lee, I'm glad it works for you. For me, it makes Mapsource seem like the greatest thing since rock carvings lol. <grin>

The final update of Mapsource was in 2010. I'm kind of surprised it still works.

Yeah, its dated but it still works better than basecamp. Garmin even acknowledges its existance in their website once again.

Only on my laptop for now but I haven't fully realized the program. Routes can save to the MyRoute server so I believe those routes can be accessed and run on any iOS/Android device that also has the MyRoute app, ie phone, tablet. It'll take me a while to figure it all out.

Thought I'd add this here. Like many of us, I've been playing with GPS software and route designers a long time. They all have the good and bad points.
I've been using this: www.trips.furkot.com and really like it. It's more than a route designed, it's really a trip planner. It's free. They make their money by providing links to hotels and restaurants, etc.

You can save the route in GPX format, old or new. I usually use this to do a rough out of a planned route. The drag and drop makes it easy.
If I am going to share the map with others, I import into basecamp and zero in and verify the shaping points and waypoints.
The maps seem good too. Different map sources are available.

It can be ran on almost any platform. I love it on my iPad, but I only have an iPad mini so I usually use my PC. It would be great on a bigger iPad.

Give it a look.

Frank this link didn’t work on my iPhone. However when I entered the Furkot.com it worked just fine.
I’ll be trying this one out.
Thanks

I have not tried it just yet but it seems it’s an on- line program. If so I have data limits and damn slow internet so it might not be for me.
