May 10 ride to hither, Lake Lure, and yon

Unread postby Ed » Sat May 11, 2013 9:06 am

Met up with Brick and Scott (on the Honda!) at Half-Way, for a day of scampering around in the hills... just over 300 miles door-to-door for me. Brick led, hopefully he'll chime in with the route details but stretches of 9 and 74-A and 226 and all sortsa back roads were in the mix.

LOTS of damage in some places from the recent heavy rains- slides of entire hillsides, dirt and rock washed across the roads, collapsed roadway here and there- so we ran into a few minor roadwork delays, but no BFD. Weather was perfect.

Had a nice lunch, as always at Lake Lure Smokehouse where Brick made a new BFF.. I'll let him tell the tale <muaha>

Thanks to Brick for letting me ride the Tenere for a few miles- great machine, can see why you guys are so happy with 'em!

At the end of the day I headed down 226 to Pick up 74 East, they swung back toward Half-Way for a run up Old 18... ran into the usual clusterf*ck traffic in Shelby and 485, but still made it home before 6:00... fine day o' riding for sure.

It was a great day of riding... I had a ball. The usual...ish route down to Lake Lure. Ed and I did switch bike for a few miles. It's very obvious I'm VERY used to the Super T as riding Ed's SV1000 was... Awkward for me!? Definitely made me love the Super T all the more. Great lunch at Lake Lure Smokehouse. While eating I noticed a woman who looked very familiar. So I asked our waitress and she said yes it was Debbie who had owned The Cajun Pig BBQ restaurant that had been in Lake Lure and had burned 7 years ago.
She was always a talker and well that hasn't changed. [THUMBS UP SIGN]
For those of you who remember the Cajun Pig I'll tell you the story sometime. Any way her son opened this place but its obvious that the food had a definite Cajun Pig influence. Great stuff!

After lunch we did a loop up part of 9 back roads over to 74 just before it gets good and curvy. Up and over 74... Behind some slooooow cars. Back up 9 to old Fort road... And other roads.

Great report. Ed may have contracted the dreaded Tenere Fever. I hear its terminal, resulting in a purchase[SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

Heres my ride report.
