Ride with the hooligans 12/21

Proof the ride happened. Don't know where you guys were, but I stopped on this bridge on the way home after Elk Creek Road. My rear tire is toast, which didn't help on the dirt / gravel. Bunch of hooligans.

I enjoyed the unexpected warmth at high altitude on the BRP and no leaves blocking the views. There's a lot of stuff beyond the edge of the forest that is usually blocked from sight.

I certainly had a ball. Was a beautiful day. I got around 230 is miles. WhaHoo!

After riding down Buffalo Cove over 268 to 321 Lee headed south to home in Lenoir and I went straight across the cut off to 90. At 90 I was unfortunate to get behind a semi truck. A full length flat bed with short sides the kind used to haul good sized trees out of the tree farms. This one was empty heading back to pickup more. This guy had driven this road many times an he was determined that I was NOT going to pass him! Left hand curves he was NASCARing them no way past and obvious right hand I couldn't see. He was hauling ass! If you remember 90 there is a section of straight with a passing zone. No way I pull out to pass he whipped it over and would have killed me! Damn! Ok... don't want to die go for it. All the way to Piedmont road where I turned. So then it continued after a short distance I caught up with a dual axel livestock trailer no way past. All the way home one would pull off and I would get behind another.
I just cruised on home! Not a day to die! [FLUSHED FACE]

Hell of a way to end a nice ride but sometimes it just ain't worth it. Probably a frustrated HD biker behind the wheel.

At TMAC a couple years ago, there was some sort of large mining dump truck in front of us on Wayah Road that was totally hauling around the corners. Not really the pace we wanted to run, but entertaining nonetheless. I was on the 500, so it didn't really matter. I have learned to appreciate the slower pace when the conditions call for it, like when Lee destroys the messy 221 with half of the lane repaved and assorted gravel strewn about. That's probably the worst I have seen 221, which I never really considered a sport road due to poor conditions. I'm happy to fall back with Brick, who probably would have passed me on his fancy new FJ09.

Steve you are right I really did appreciate how good a driver the semi driver was and it was fine to slow down and enjoy NC-90 and Adako Road. I've done that before and it's a very interesting part of the world. People make the world and those roads have some very industrious and independent people.
I think I get a lot of slower pace and appreciation of the slower riding on my many long travels. Crossing the USA to many in all the clubs I am a member of is a laborious task. To me it's been that if on too much of a schedule but now is a joy... very cathartic. I REALLY love it!
I find that roads like these, curvy undulating to draw me into enjoying there sweet ride = zoom zoom zoom.
