COFSTA forum member and certified hooligan Haulin Ashe led a whole sh*t-load of us on a fun ride today!! Jeff met Beachy and I just north of Gice-tonia (or a few miles east of Chur-vul) and we rode backroads including Old 18 to Morganton where a whole bunch of people showed up. Lessee--there was Brick, Greg, Clyde, and Lee so we had 7 all total. B2B---4 of us went the GMRS route while Brick and Clyde paired up with Bluetooth, and Beachy rode along in blissful silence. This seemed to work pretty well, we always knew who was where. We did Lake James, 226A, Roan Mtn, Hughes Gap, and NC80, but were foiled by the fire on the east side on the mtns on 80--it was closed at the top of the mtn. Pretty smokey looking down in the valley. I took a few pics-->> (anybody else wanna chime in here?)

Does anyone notice something "different" about Brick's new FJ-09? <grin> (hint--look at the front end)

Poser! <poke>

Super fun ride that just happened to get what is probably the last warm day of the season.

It was great to ride with the clan. I try to do a similar, if not identical ride the day after Christmas each year. Even if the weather is COLD and snow on the ground, as long as the roads are clear it's a tradition I cherish. The chimney smoke and snowcapped streams alongside the run up/down Roan Mtn. make for a picturesque postcard ride.
Friday's ride was incredible weather and I do so VERY MUCH appreciate everyone showing up.

If I am back from my X-mas trip, I will be in.

I mean really, who ADDS a beak? I have researched ways to remove the beak from my X, but decided it was more trouble than its worth. Plus, I can't call it "duckling" without the beak.
