Oct. 26 Tom & Bob's excellent adventureThis was the kind of day I wish we had 24/7. Carolina Blue skies, low humidity, temps around 70F even up at altitude. Gimme more. Old Duc and I rode Old 18 & 181 to Crossnore where we took Squirrel Creek over to 19E, then north across Roan Mountain to Bakersville, where we had some great down home cooking at Helen's. Then it was Double Island & NC80 to Marion and 126 around Lake James, Old 18 once again with a stop at Redbone Willies for some home made ice cream--Tom's excellent suggestion! Only took a couple of pics, but what a fun day!

Re: Oct. 26 Tom & Bob's excellent adventureHow does Redbone Willies look for lunch potential? That area could figure into winter riding but there aren't many restaurants.

Not sure, there is a cafe thats part of it but was closed when we were there. Website has no mention of hours. http://www.redbonewilly.com/the-bonehead-cafe.html Bob
Re: Oct. 26 Tom & Bob's excellent adventureWhile we are on the topic of Eats in the high country, I stopped by the old Mountain View restaurant just south of Bakersville on 226 by Duck Branch road. It's been remodeled and it has new owners. It's now called The Harvest Market. I really like what they've done to the place. We had a burger (grass fed is $2 more but worth it to me) and the chicken grilled and topped with peppers and cheese.
They have winter hours now, breakfast only on the weekends, but they look to be serving lunch and dinner 6 nights a week plus Sunday hours. The inside is very rustic, the service was good, and the food was very tasty. It's a tad more expensive than Helens, but the food is much better as id the atmosphere. They also have some nove tables outside. They are expanding and talking about a deck off the side. If we want places like this in the mtns, give them a try.
Re: Oct. 26 Tom & Bob's excellent adventureRedbone Willy's is out my back door and I ride past it constantly, at least several times each week. But can never make sense of when they are busy and appear open versus not. And as you say, their website says nothing. So I'm assuming they only do group events and holiday specials. I really should reach out and communicate for the scoop.
Everything that spells FUN, will cost a little bit more than you can afford.
