10/24/16 Ride

Unread postby Brick » Mon Oct 24, 2016 8:39 pm

Lee got to my house exactly at the time he said he would. He and I rode the back way around lake James to Marion where we waited for Jeff. Then the three of us rode to the other side of Asheville where I missed the tire ride hat I just knew I would remember... but didn't! Damn! Per Lee... We got off on Fines Creek Rd to Panther Creek Rd aka Panther Piss Rd! Over to 209 up to Trust where we got gas before the 15 mile romp up to the Mountainview restaurant in Hot Springs for lunch.
After lunch we got to ride Big Laural to Revere to Lonesome Mountain [THUMBS UP SIGN][THUMBS UP SIGN][THUMBS UP SIGN]. I really love those roads.
The usual route over and back down the Mtn. By the time I got home I had ridden 290 miles!!! Excellent!

Brick had us start out on the slab so we could get a little further afield than usual before hitting the curvy roads. That was a nice change up and we had sooo much fun nobody remembered to take any pics!

Those roads sound very interesting, and slab is also a good way for us Charlatans to do a longer day ride like that. Lets do it again soon --in reverse order maybe... <scoot>

Brick, was your intent to hop off I-40 on 209? If so would you then take Riverside/Panther Creek over to Fines Creek and then back up to 209? Or did you intend just to stay on 209 when you exited I-40?

Nothing in the world can pick up ones spirit like those three Madison county roads; Big Laurel, Revere, and Lonesome Mtn road. (except maybe 66 & 70 in TN/VA) Nirvana

Bob, No there are some small roads off 40 there that Gary Lackey showed me that are very cool and scenic. Apparently I can't remember the names. [WEARY FACE]

I'll betcha he's talking about heading north from I-40 to Beaverdam Rd > Sandy Mush Rd > Meadows Town Rd. That's a fun run. I don't know what else it could be because the other roads off that long stretch of I-40 simply funnel into 209. If we hadn't exited to Fines Creek Rd there's nothing after that until way into TN except dirt roads into Max Patch and Cherokee country.

I enjoyed taking time off work for the ride. It was just too perfect a day to pass up, and too perfect to stop for pictures!
Did manage to confirm the new DTC/ABS/Throttle settings on the Ducati are working extremely well.
Brick and Lee took turns pissing off motorists so they would take out their rage on the poor sap in the back of the pack, ME!

We spotted the Linville wild fire on the way home and apparently it has now grown to be something major. I'm ready to do it again Saturday.
Everything that spells FUN, will cost a little bit more than you can afford.
