10/18/16... Let's ride... report!

Unread postby Brick » Tue Oct 18, 2016 6:02 pm

WaHoo!! I met Lee and Bob at the Gate station in Morganton at 10:00am. Lee led us around Lake James the southern rout up Power House road. [THUMBS UP SIGN] Then up NC-80 to the BRP. The colors were fantastic above 3,800 feet up to 4,500 feet where it starts to be beyond peak! We turned off on Ox Bow which is fanFing...tastic down into Asheville to Merimont Ave as the destination was Mr Honda on south NC 25. But we saw Luella's BBQ before we got to downtown. Yumm it was good stuff! [THUMBS UP SIGN][THUMBS UP SIGN]
Then after lunch on to Mr where we shopped. I'm looking for an FJ 09, a new helmet and summer gloves. They had NOTHING!!! Well they had lots but nothing I was looking for!
Then back down 74 through Gertin, NC to Lake Lure. There Bob split to go his freeway home and Lee and I rode Buffalo Cove, Painters Gap... etc.
more later...

Yeah it was great to get up there and see the fall colors. I even took a few pics this time (no leaves). Thanks to Lee and Brick for leading me around today. And shit, I lost one of my air-flow leather gloves, must have dropped it on the ground either at Luellas or MR Moto. Called Luella's but they don't have it. Maybe I'll call MR tomorrow.

Great to be out riding!! <tour>

Fall colors on the BRP were gorgeous! For any of you heading up there, go early. Even though Tuesday morning isn't what I think of as touristy, the overlook parking areas were filling up. Most of the traffic in the Mt Mitchell area where we rode comes from Asheville, opposite us, so we got through OK.

Found my lost glove---it fell out of my topcase in the MR Motorcycle parking lot. If anyone is going thru Asheville anytime soon would you mind stopping by and picking it up? Its in the "sales tower" inside there, I spoke with Marshall. They have a lot of "stuff" there, its better than Competition Accessories showroom when it was open in Rock Hill! <scoot>

Its only a couple blocks south of I-40 on US25 South.

No I really don't need to sell either bike I have. I rented and rode an FJ09 in the Alps last year and it is a fantastic fun bike. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

I have always had a problem with owning 2 bikes, assuming similar mission roles for them. When I walked into the garage I always picked the one that was the most fun to ride. And why wouldn't I? Why would I deprive myself of having the most fun on any given ride? That being said, I am still looking for a 2nd bike, one that would share riding duties with the other and be equally as fun. If thats possible. So far, no luck. So whats taking you so long Brick? If it were me I'd be looking for a gently used FJ for thousands less than new. <grin>

Bob that is exactly what I'm doing... waiting for a gently use FJ09 in silver with the blue wheels. Haven't seen any yet.
If you find one let me know.
Oh yea I'm also shopping accessories. I'm might be able to get saddlebag racks that take the Trex bags I use on my Tenere. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

"The most fun to ride " doesn't take into the type of ride. An all purpose bike can do many things well, but nothing extremely well. Weather and distance also play a role in what is the "right tool for the job" that day. Most of my riding years saw one bike in the garage: a sport touring bike. Then after I got tired of pushing the 650# behemoth around the right twisties I added a Tuono to the stable. Then I got bit by the track big and bought a dedicated track bike. The only thing I have yet to do and have plans to buy is a dual sport to further enjoy the mtns on goat paths not deemed functional for any of the aforementioned bikes. I learned years ago that for me it is better to have multiple older models bikes than to have one of the latest the industry has to offer.

^^ Well said. The Hayabusa has its' own charm, and the Bandit is just old-school stupid-fun... between the three, if my SV1000 had another ~1½" of suspension travel I'd be all set.

I've been toying the idea of selling it but probably couldn't get enough to make it worth my while to sell it. How much money do you have?
