Friday Caesars Head loop

Unread postby Bob » Sun Oct 02, 2016 7:12 pm

Triple Tango (Richard) and I took the famous Lake Lure Expwy to...Lake Lure of course. There we got gas and vittles at Ingles hot bar. After a quick lunch we continued on our Caesar's Head loop. First we hit Green River Cove Rd up to Saluda; then Mountain Page Rd and SC11 to the Caesar's Head Hiway (US276). That run up to CH was really neat, it has been a long time since I did that as it is kinda out of the way, but glad we hit it this time. Annoying traffic even for a weekday though. After hanging out with some nerdy birders at the lookout, we continued up 276 to Wilson Rd (Brevard bypass) and then on up 276 to the BRP, stopping to gawk for a sec at Looking Glass Falls. Then it was down the BRP past Asheville where we jumped on I-40 for a quick slab to Enola Rd and Old 18 heading for home. Made the entire trip in just under 10 hours, home before dark. I want to hit this one again in a few weeks when the leaves are turning. Those upstate SC roads are really unique.<scoot>

I ran that section of 276 through the park two weeks ago on a return from Deals Gap. Same story - it seems picking off traffic in full hooligan mode is required to enjoy that road.
