Ed, Yarbi, Scott, Yamadog, and I embarked from the Halfway at 10:30 enroute to Burnsville, by way of Golden Valley Rd., 226, and NC80. The weather was perfect (mid 50's) sunny and clear. This was Yamadog's first ride with us since he retired last Friday. Obviously he didn't waste any time getting into the swing of the weekday riding! And as usual, we pretty much had the roads to ourselves. After a tasty lunch at the Garden Deli, we followed the river on US19W for a ways, then moved over to 197 and then down 80 to US19E. Then it was up Crabtree Creek to NC226A, down the mtn. and around Lake James, then down Old 18 and home. The roads were mostly clear of winter crud. Maybe next ride we'll venture into the areas north of Boone and check out those higher elevations. Need some more rain up there, though....
As a side note, 226A is still covered with tar snakes, the composition of which has yet to be determined, but they NEVER dry out and firm up. I will be looking into this moto-tragedy with the NCDOT in the near future. That road is just plain ruined for motorcyclists.
It was a 350 mile day for most of us.
And now, here is my ONE whole pic. We were too busy riding to take pics.
Arriving at the Garden Deli for Lunch.
