Monday ride to check on the mtns.

Yep, it had been so long we decided we better get up there to see if they are still there! <olfart>
I am happy to report back that the mountains are still there and intact, ready for another season of twisty-ing. <bana>

Yamadog and I met up with the Brickster after lunch at the mexican joint in Pineola (note to self: next time eat at Christa's! <barf> ). After doing the bluetooth dance and getting paired up (Brick made me do it), Brick then led us on a fun-filled romp on some mountainous roads, and based on this we made the determination the mountains were still intact. First we took Squirrel Creek Rd from Crossnore over to 19E. Then we rode Old Beech Mtn. Rd which was "relatively" clear of crap for this time of year. Then we stopped off for a break at Mast Genl. Store, and then made a dash up 194 to Banner Elk, followed by a dash down 181 back to Morganton. After some tire kicking at the Gate, Brick made his long trek home (10 minutes <finger> ) while Yamadog and I rode Old 18 and back roads home to gridlock city. By the way, the southern half of Old 18 has been resurfaced with some really nice asphalt--worth a trip to check it out!!

Gorgeous weather mid 60's in the mtns and 70 in the flatlands. U shudda bin there. Thanks Brick! <scoot> <tour> <squid> <fonda>

Yes it was a great day for a ride. [THUMBS UP SIGN] The mountain roads while still being there do have a lot of crap on them.
As we dropped off the Mtn down 181 it got warmer and warmer! Yes! [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Hanging Rock and the VFR still good to go, too. I think 64 degrees was the lowest number on the VFR's thermometer all day. Left around 1:30 and pulled in the driveway at twilight.

I did the local foothills loop, Lenoir-Marion-Wilkesboro, on Sunday with an added zip up and back down 181. Those roads are all OK.

Thanks, man. I still love the VFR, but I spend more time on the CB since I don't hurt after the ride. Must be getting old.

I can relate! Thus the Tenere'! But it still goes like stink. The reflash on the EVU really opened it up nicely!

Round 2 today on the CB500 I ventured up Squirrel Spur towards the Parkway but never made it all the way there. I am actually impressed with road conditions. Only a little salt / sand on the outside of a few corners. That will probably change since there is SNOW forecast Friday morning. Jeez....
