12-4 to JD's Smokehouse and elsewhere

Unread postby Bob » Fri Dec 04, 2015 6:51 pm

Well, it happened! Food was unreal, in both quality and quantity--and damned if I forgot to take pics of the meal ! After lunch, 7 of us (brick, broz, tripod, lee davis, yamadog, 007, and I) followed brick thru the foohills (126 around Lake James) and up 226A, along the BRP, and down NC80. The weather was cool and very clear, mountain views were spectacular with the leaves all gone.

Here's my one pic to prove it happened.

It was a beautiful day to ride! It was great seeing everyone again too. I have a feeling that all y'all may want to go back to JD's again so I need to refine a good route from there to the good roads.
Thanks everyone I had a BALL riding today!

Brick, yeah we just might want to revisit JD's! <grin> But next time I will order the smallest plate they offer, to avoid the food coma Lee described. Here's a route I have ridden a few years ago, the only paved route across to Collettsville Rd. (Playmore Beach Rd. is dirt).

Killer BBQ and fun ride. It's great to get out and about even for just a few hours - it reminds everyone in the area that these are OUR ROADS - we own them!

I continued on to 40 / and then up 151 only to find a sign stating the parkway was closed at that point. Oh well - I went up 151 anyway because it is fun. I ended up cruising into Franklin the easy way since it was getting dark by the time I quit messing around. Ran up 28 this morning and did a couple Dragon runs with very little traffic. We had a late start due to the weather (it was 23 degrees overnight in Franklin!). Sipping on a Founders Backwoods Bastard Bourbon Ale I write this.
And to prove it happened

Nice riding with you guys. When I peeled off I needed gas and figured since I was so close to NC 80 I had better run up and down it before heading back to Charlotte.
JD's is a definite must return soon!

Broz we were talking about running up 80 and down 226A but I switched it at the last minute. It was great meeting and riding with Jay too.
Steve is that your friends bike... an ST1300? I've had that bourbon ale and it's a good one. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

My friend has an ST1300, NC700X, CB500F, and the new Versys 650LT. He sold his VFR because it was "too fast" and encouraged him to be irresponsible. He was on a Tiger 800 (actually his girlfriend was on it) until it was totaled on an oily off ramp (everyone OK and he more or less didn't want the bike anyway). When he rides his CB500, one rider said "don't ever try to follow Kimball on his stupid little bike." Wiser words were never spoken.
