Ssssnnnake!! 11/5

Unread postby LeeDavis » Thu Nov 05, 2015 6:01 pm

Who knew this would be a near perfect day?! Everywhere from the BRP to all points north was blue skies, a few wispy clouds and 70+ degrees. There was some road dampness in a few of the most shaded areas but that's it. We came on to the Snake from TN-91 and ran the west side, across and back to the Shady Valley Store for delicious hot dogs (love me some dogs!) then finished off the east side. Return home was through Todd and Steve split off from Brick and me at Old 421 north of Elk Creek Rd.

Brick has few proof pics to post up.

Yes I do have photos. No snot... Those of you who didn't ride really missed a super riding day! Scraping pegs on the left and my toe on the right. Whahoo! It's tough for this big pig of a Super Tenere' to keep up but this old guy and the large Yamaha didn't get too far behind. Here is the route. Image
After I download the photos off my camera I'll add them here. [THUMBS UP SIGN]
Seriously fantastic riding day!

Glad it worked out. I'd a gone if I lived up there, but its 85 miles of misty wet pavement just to get there. <dope>

Snotty leaves and fog. OH THE HUMANITY. Thanks for the warning guys or I would have run right over this patch.

Coming down off the mtn it was the way it started. Cloudy grey day. But up beyond the BRP it was beautiful!

The majority of the day was bright sunshine with few clouds. We were joking about stopping to take pictures of wet leaves, but they were so few and far between I thought I missed my chance. The posted shot was incredibly bizarre. I took it after I broke off from the guys, went up Old 421, and entered an overlook up the Parkway just prior to 221. I shot up 221 to Sparta, then 18 to Ennice and Low Gap to 89, which runs through my normal route by Hanging Rock and a few backroads home. It was nice to avoid the highway. The sunset was absolutely beautiful, partially obscured by clouds over the mountains to reduce glare. What a ride!

This is my first attempt to resize photo's off my camera... didn't know what size to make them and they came out kind of wierd. Each one has a bar on the right to scroll to see the entire picture???

PICS

Unread postby Bob » Fri Nov 06, 2015 1:40 pm

Brick, re. the sizing of the pics, you made those a little too small, like 25K-30K--that is why they are in those frames and are pretty low rez. A good size to shoot for is 125K to 250K, those should be larger and "clickable" as Steve's were. But Steve's were TOO big, 3MB, which isn't really needed, and 125-250K looks about 95% as good as 3MB when converted to JPEG with high quality. I worry about running out of storge space on the server at some point , thats why I advocate the 125-250K size.

Did you hang the camera around your neck?

I think most people have high def screens, 1920 pixels wide, so any more photo resolution than that is pointless. I usually resize ride photos down to 1200-1600 pixels wide for this forum and sometimes less for simple object photos.

Marc, I for one appreciate all the high-country road reports you have provided. We know you didn't pull that one out of your a**; I'm sure thats what you had observed in your neck of the woods. Keep 'em coming! Please. <thumb>

Yup--or even 800X1200 usually looks good in the forum, but it all depends on the original rez. Brick, if pixel count is a resizing option, try that.

Edit: Brick yours were all 480x640 pixels so shoot for 800x1200.

Edit 2: If you are using that PicSizer I sent you, it looks like its limlt is 1024x1024 so try 1024 (width) x 768 (height) and set jpg compression to 100.

Bob,
Yes that was my camera hanging around my neck. This was practice for resizing all my Alps photos. I'll use your 125-250K size and do them. I just read the rest of your posts re resizing... I'll work on it.
Thanks
Then you can tell me how to batch load them into the forum.

Sorry about the large pics. Couldn't figure out how to adjust the Tapatalk app to make them smaller and was lazy. Did they upload to the site or are they just links?
