Leaf Peepers Ride 10-7-15

Unread postby Bob » Wed Oct 07, 2015 8:34 pm

Five of us ventured into the highlands in search of fall colors--Brick, Yamadog, Lee, Phil (the FNG) and me. We took 181 and then the BRP over to Blowing Rock. The leaves were doing their thing along the Linn Cove Viaduct on the Parkway. After BBQ at Woodlands, we checked out the colors on Meat Camp Rd., NC88, George's Gap, and 194 over to Banner Elk. Then we took 181 back down the mountain to Morganton and headed for home. The sky was Carolina Blue with nary a trace of particulate matter in the air. (it was severe clear). Great weather for a great ride with great company! <claps>

The fall colors and clarity were beautiful in the highlands especially compared to how dreary it's been.

Sorry I couldn't make it. Had to do a final shakedown run on the CB500X. New tires today and headed to Boone for some VFR fun.

I had a ball! It's been too long since I got to ride with all Y'all! Way too much fun.
George's Gap is so different going in that direction.
Lee and I had a car free run on 194 to Banner Elk... amazing! We both commented that we don't know the last time that has happened. In fact I think the last two times I came up behind school buses. And that is NO fun!

Glad you made the ride!

You were lucky on 194. We got behind 3 cars right off the bat, the one in front was a BMW sports car convertible that never exceeded 20 mph all the way to the top. <banghd> There was no way to pass. A school bus would have been welcome at that point.
