Brick Alps 2015

Unread postby Brick » Thu Mar 26, 2015 8:37 am

Most of my riding life I have wanted to ride the Alps. I've seen all the tours and watched so many videos on U Tube etc but always felt I just didn't want to pay for a guided tour. Plus the cost was always ... just too much.
Well I now have an airplane ticket and a bike rented so it's finally going to happen! [THUMBS UP SIGN]
I fly out of Charlotte June 29th midday get to Munich early 30 June. (I changed the way I present the date because that is how they do it over there) We will be spending the night in Munich and picking up our bikes 1 July. I say we, Chris Jernigan is on the entire trip with me, my friend Howard from Ohio will be on the first 10 days of the trip. I am renting a Yamaha MT09 Tracer with tankbag, Givi 36ltr saddlebags and a 46ltr trunk. Chris is getting a Honda 800cc Crossrunner. Howard a BMW 800R, the same model he owns here.
We fly home 21 July.

More details... Soon.

Great news, Brick! So it's finally gonna happen. Make sure you take pics for us and I know you'll enjoy the riding but you will also find the food is quite different and quite good. I enjoyed France, Belgium and Germany in a car. Once in a lifetme expirence and I am happy for you and of course, jealous as hell!

Yes, I intend on running my SPOT and will create a SPOTWalla trip so you can see where I am. I also intend on using the http://checkmytour.net/ app on my phone as it will make daily routes that can be downloaded as GPX and GDB files.

I've never wanted a GoPro and don't really want to own one but I might really like to have one on this trip. Oh well not a big deal.

I intend on taking my camera around my neck and downloading images each night. I think I might start a SmugMug account to put them. Any other ideas of photo sites to upload to so I can also share?

Here is a Google map of a proposed first 5 days... Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, small bit of Switzerland, the tip of Italy, back into Austria.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Munich+ ... 980865!3e0

I wish I had a faster internt connection I would do this with Google Earth! <banghd>

Brick, thanks for the piccies! I am shocked at the temps there, though....what is the elevation?? 95F to 105F sounds so hot for that part of the world but maybe I am just ignorant? (don't answer that) I thought you'd probably stay at a minimum of 4-5K feet when not running the passes..... <pop> Kinda like Colorado.

Edit: what does the "A-R" stand for on those little oval cards everyone is holding up? Is that the Finn group?

Where we are tonight the elevation is 660 meters. That seems to kind of be the norm. However this is very unusual for here. Forecast says it will go back to more normal temps now.
AR is from web site and forum that this rally for the Finnish put together. http://Www.alpineroads.com.
