3-17 Ride to the Hawg n Dawg

Yamadog and I met up with Yarbi, Brick, Lee, and the FNG BobW at the Halfway Hardware at 10:00. From there we followed the pre-ordained route of Golden Valley, and up 80/197 to Erwin, TN. Lee took the lead going up 80 to unleash the inner hooligan on his new FJ-09. The roads were mostly at 85%, not bad as most of the crud had washed to the sides except on 19W on the NC side heading back from Erwin, where it looked like sand dunes in the middle of the lanes in the higher elevations. Weather was great--partly cloudy, windy, and not a trace of rain. South of Burnsville we tried a new-to-me road, Blue Rock Rd., which emptied into Seven Mile Ridge Rd, and would have been pretty good if it wasn't for the road crud present. After a final stop at the Big Lynn Lodge for a photo-op and tire kicking, we all went our separate ways, Yamadog and I heading down 226 to Polkville and then 182/etc back home. All in all a great day and great company! <olfart> A 360 mile round trip for us.

Can't wait until roads are closer to 95%. Sand dunes are frowned upon with 170+HP beasts wearing Q3s. Any recent Snake reports? Might have to run over that way next week.

Great ride on St. Paddy's day! Thanks for the great romp! Of note... the further back in the pack the more "crap" was noted on the roads because each bike kicked up more. I was riding 4th spot and I rode through a dust cloud a lot! It did not give much confidence that's for sure. I did only slip a couple of times but then again Bob was cutting a mean pace!

I was going to ask Jim about that dead possum that you rolled over. It was after lunch at Hog & Dog because I thought hmm... he will have fork oil from the leaking seal AND possum guts on his bike now! <muaha>

Great to meet and ride with FNG BobW too!

Monday I rode over the Snake it was pretty darn good I wouldn't ride 100% just yet but well worth a trip over there for sure.

Yeah, I heard you guys talking about the white powdery stuff flying around but I couldn't see the clouds of it and really couldn't feel it up front. I am wondering if it actually degrades traction much, unless its piled up. Just the thin film I saw didn't affect my grip any, that I could tell. Maybe ignorance was bliss. <bugeye>

One more good rain oughta do it.

Forgot to say "KUDOS" to BobW for piloting that yacht around those roads and keeping up as he did! <joecool> Surprised his floorboards aren't paper-thin by now.

Hmmmm---Kudos--now wtf is that about anyway? Oh, here it is in wiki: (from the Ancient Greek: κῦδος) is acclaim or praise for exceptional achievement. <olfart>

<udaman>

Thanks for letting me tag along and for everyone keeping a moderate pace that allowed me to enjoy the day so much. This thing is a hoot, but ..........

<flip> Of course I immediately began looking for a replacement for my BMW much earlier than planned <muaha>

'Nuther great day, I really enjoyed the ride. Today's all day rain should help decrapify the roads.

Thanks for a great ride, Bob. As usual, it was a fun route. The new road was pretty good considering the crap on it. Nice job by NFG BobW at keeping up with those sub-compacts when compared to his limo. Remarkable. That opposum was dead when I nipped it, I sware. Nobody ahead of me mentioned anything about road kill and I tried to miss it at the last minute but..... Fork oil wise, I lost about 50 mls from the leaky seal. Cleaned the seal with a seal mate so we'll see if that was a fix. Again, great ride.
