Originally supposed to ride the 27th, but due to a riders sickness, and predicted Warmer temps, we went with Saturday instead. An excellent choice! Met at gate in Morganton around 11:15. Myself, EasyRider(dad) and Brian from VFRD, set out to the Snake and shady valley. We headed up 181, through banner elk and up 184-194 towards Tennessee. The roads were clean and clear with exception of about 5-10 miles of 194, which had some sand buildup in the middle of each lane. We made it to the snake and proceeded up. It was Dads first time and Brian was on his dualsport Honda Transalp not his Vfr, and nursing well worn tires. (More on the dualsport idea in another thread, I'm curious now to say the least ) Anyways, They hung back and Lordy someone must have given the Tiger her wheaties for breakfast! I found my rhythm going across towards shady valley. There were several other riders out enjoying the 55-60 degree temps in the valley (and not much colder on the mountain). Enjoyed some lunch at the country store and then headed back to Morganton more or less the way we came up. All three of us got going nicely on 181 headed down. Very smooth and fast. Wound up at 190 miles for the day. All in all and excellent ride.
