Friday 10-24 to West Jeff and beyond

Unread postby Bob » Fri Oct 24, 2014 9:03 pm

Lee led Yamadog, me, and 2 new guys, Vaughn and Jack, on a nice loop from Morganton thru Blowing Rock & Todd to West Jefferson where we had large disks of meat on a bun for lunch at a trendy and upscale place called Boondocks. After lunch we rode Old NC16 north a ways (never been there before) and then took 88 west to Old 421. At this point Yamadog and I headed east over Tater Hill to avoid Boone, and then down 421 and 16 etc. to Charlotte. About 335 miles for us, not sure about the rest as they finished up Lees rather ambitious route, I think over Old Beech Mtn Rd and others. I only took 2 pics. <dope> And then merged them into 1, which you see here, at Todd. It was a great day to be riding!!

Jack and Vaughn got their money's worth and were worn out by the end. Beech Mt Rd, George's Gap and some of the other roads I had in the route south of there are a test of concentration.

I think the weather was a surprise to all of us. I was half expecting to freeze but instead, the high we went the warmer it got. By lunch we were shedding liners and swapping for mesh gloves.

Lunch at Boondock's

Gee hate I missed this one ! Spent some time at Boondocks (with a DD) and Old Hwy 16 runs right by my house. Sounds like a great route.

Looks like the FNG's are listening to Bob but with crossed arms seem pretty skeptical. Hmmm... these FNG's may be too smart too soon. ;-)
