Weds. Ride to Burnsville and beyond

Unread postby Bob » Wed Sep 10, 2014 7:10 pm

Brick led Broz, Lee, and me on a great romp thru the twisties today. From Morganton, we took 126 around Lake James, then NC80 to Burnsville where we had lunch at Bubba's. Brick had a Ghost Burger--still not sure what that was. Brick then led us on a really fun and new-to-me loop west of Burnsville that included Jack's Creek, Bee Branch, and a few more roads. Very scenic and twisty. Then we took Cane Creek/Bear Wallow over to 226A and down the mtn. where we finished off with a 126 reverse romp back to Morganton. Then Broz and I made one last fling down Old NC18 and home. A 10 hour day for me--very enjoyable and NO rain!

But guess what--another ride and I took no pics. <dope>

But BROZ did! Hopefully he will post a couple here. <pics>

Fun ride...and tasty lunch at Bubba's Good Eats...thanks guys! When I got home I ran the Sena device manager on my unit and the microphone boost was enable. Must be a default because I didn't set it that way. Anyhoo, it's disabled now so my comms should be clearer next time.

Ah--so it WAS on the SMH10. Brick--check yours also, and set it to OFF if its on. I think that will make it clearer all around.

Actually Lee had the Ghost burger... I had a mush/Swiss burger. Also I didn't take any photos John did. However here is our route: Image

Brick. I'm glad your tour tracks worked. Mine crapped out in Burnsville. I will have to download your tracks from today. Here is mine.

Some of these tracking things stop if you stay too long in one place.

FWIW, SR10 users also get Low - Medium - High transmit gain options <icool>

I haven't dithered with it much- for my setup, running the SR10 as shown with mic boost 'enabled' on the SMH10 gave the best SQ according to you ridemates.

Ed, heres what was going on yesterday. Lee was talking directly thru an SMH10 and Motorola BT radio (no SR10). He was nice and loud but kinda muffled and unclear. He started moving the mic away from his mouth and every time he did it got a little clearer--until it got too far and some background sounds crept in. But much improvement moving it away. Then Brick tried the same thing (using his SR10 of course) and his voice suddenly became crystal clear. So I thought that maybe the mic gain could be overdriving it. Something that can be experimented with--as in MIC GAIN=ON with mic further away, or MIC GAIN=OFF with mic closer. But bottom line I think with the SMH10, is their mics are more sensitive than my Autocom mic (which needs to brush your lips) and sound clearer with a little gap. Question: is there a hardware shortcut using the buttons where you can configure the SMH10 on the road--or is a computer required for doing *anything?

Edit: Broz, don't forget to get the mic muffs.

The Sena Device Manager is the only way to configure SMH10 Microphone Boosting and the default is "On". You have to run the Device Manager to turn it off.

Ditto, with the SR10... only takes a sec, but you (at the present, anyway) need to use the Device Manager.

It'd be cool if there was a way to do it via a phone app, which I believe is possible now with the 20.

Sounds like you guys had a good ride. Sorry I missed it, was at the beach for a week. I guess I'm gonna have to find this device manager and disable my SENA mic boost also. I, like Lee, am not using the SR10 and it sounds like this change is required for better coms. It's just a shame I'm so dumb with this stuff. <dope>

It's easy- you go to the Sena 'Support' pages:

http://www.sena.com/support/software/emailcheck/

...and there's a link to download the Device Manager.

First step, if you haven't done so already- is to register your device and your email address using the "Register Now!" button. Once you've got the program downloaded and installed, hook your SMH10 to the computer via the USB charging port and just follow the procedure.

Ok, we have changed the MIC on the Sena. Hope it works with future comms.
