NO dirt!Bob and I didn't make it out to 181 yesterday, although we did get in a good romp through parts of SC... wouldn't have thought his DRZ400 could pull up over 90mph, but it does so with ease and I was there to witness
I needed that 181 itch scratched, though and dragged out my fossilized Bandit 1200 at 0800 this morning... took it fairly easy on Old 18 going up, but the roads were already dry and mostly free of crap. Made two up-down runs at 181... man, I wish we had something like that in my neighborhood. I'm sure 007 Steve will be aghast at my chicken strips (obviously, a lack of total commitment on my part lol) but for a 16 year old oil-boiler we were making "pretty okay" time By eleven-ish, traffic had built enough that double-yellow passes were the only way to keep a decent pace... so I said hasta luego, and headed back to Half-Way. Old 18 southbound (eastbound?) is, for whatever reason more "fun" for me so I got a decent run at it... or so I thought anyway, until a group of sportbikes flashed past the other way at nearly light speed... christ, the way people casually pull out and/or cut corners there I'm surprised there aren't regular fatalities. Made it back to Charlotte just in time to swelter in the mid-day heat on 485, got back in with 254 miles on the day... itch scratched.
Re: NO dirt!Glad you made it out Ed. I am still messing with the GS' s rear end. Will drop the drive and inspect the rear universal joint shortly. If it looks ok will take it for a short spin and then check for noises in a warmed up drive. It just ain't normal to hear clicking when I roll it in the garage. As for sounding like a box of rocks running on the center stand, I listened to Don's today and his sounds 'similar' so I'll reserve judgement until I test it some more.

Re: NO dirt!Sorry I missed the 181 romp, but might be in the area Thurs / Fri / Sat next week with Angeli. I go slower with the girl on the back, although she is a very good pillion. I will let the experts lead, as usual. Also need to nurse my tires. One good trip short of a change.
Re: NO dirt!Shout if I can help you with the GS, Bob... I'm pretty available this week.
Look forward to riding with you again, Steve
Re: NO dirt!Sounds like a good itch scratching! I may or may not be around to ride later this week, depends on what tires are in stock at my local shop, and how enthusiastic they are about working on a Triumph.

Re: NO dirt!Ben you can get any tire you want from Jake Wilson .com in a couple of days. Then if you wanted to change your own you could bring them here we can change them. I've done it on my Tiger. The local shops aren't open until Tuesday so timing would be about the same.
Just an offer if you want. Brick Brick

Re: NO dirt!As another "possible"- Competition Accessories has a lot of stock at their Rock Hill location, and it gets here in one day with free shipping and no NC sales tax
http://www.compacc.com Their pricing is usually spot-on against AMT, et al.
Re: NO dirt!Jake Wilson has the best price on tires and changing them yourself saves at least half the cost, if not more. Most dealers want almost MSRP to buy the tires, and at least $100 to mount and balance each one.
Re: NO dirt!
++ and they are open today! Call the local Rock Hill # and ask if they have them. You can pick up at the store if you wanted to. Bob
Re: NO dirt!Ben call me if you are interested. 448-5429 I also have Amsoil in stock... You would need a filter.
This is the way to really get to know your bike. Brick Brick

Re: NO dirt!I already have a filter on hand. I need to flush the cooling system as well, and the brakes probably too. Let me track down some tires and I'll take you up on that offer Brick.

Re: NO dirt!Never used Jake Wilson before. Just compared my PR4's between them and Compet. Access. and Jake was $8/rear tire higher than Compet. . Free shipping included for both. But maybe they're cheaper for other tires, will keep them as one to shop in the future.
Bob
Re: NO dirt!Jake was 10$ cheaper than Comp. The PR2's I ordered.

Re: NO dirt!Yup---pays to shop around. I used to order all my tires from Southwest Moto Tires in Phoenix for a couple years, without even shopping them cause they were *always* cheaper and the best known internet moto tire dealer at the time. At some point someone suggested I check AMT Tires. BOY WAS I GETTING HOSED BY SWMOTO Apparently the founder of SW Moto, Erik, sold his business to some Honda dealer there and they decided to capitalize on the former reputation...until folks figured it out I guess.

Re: NO dirt! They all change... Gotta shop a little. Heck onetime buy a big supply of some tire and that's the one you get a better price on from them that week.

Re: NO dirt!I watched the price on Jake Wilson for Q3 front tire increase $7 in less than a week. Pays to shop around. Price is different for each size, too. Doesn't make sense since the majority seem to be drop shipped, but I don't question the reason for low prices. Just pick the one that is best, lol. Enjoy the maintenance, and let me know how it goes. The Tiger 1050 is on my short list.
Re: NO dirt!Agree, I've gotten better deals from AMT at times too.
One thing I especially like about CompAcc is being able to go down to Rock Hill and try on apparel stuff... get your size, then buy through the website- RH ships it tax-free and everyone (except Raleigh ) is happy
Re: NO dirt!Oh I will keep y'all posted! I can see myself really getting into this bike. Lots of tuning options.
