Ride Friday 3/21/14

Unread postby Brick » Fri Mar 21, 2014 5:05 pm

Today's ride started out... well stuttered out... I got a text from a number I didn't know (didn't have in my address book). It said running a few minutes late dead battery... I replyed, who is this? Mark K said it was he. Ok no problem. Then my bike wouldn't start... It acted like the battery. WTF!!! I put it on the battery tender, apparently I had forgotten to do that from the ride last week??? Asked Scott and Broz to come to my place. Once they got there it fired up and away we rode. We got to Cheeks before Mark K and Ann did. Introduction done and off we ride. <joecool> oh yea Marks front tire was shot too. He said it was interesting on the 3 miles of gavel.

Mark and Ann took us to Black Cat Burrito in Boone... Yumm! Image
With Marks battery dead we push started him every time we stopped.

Then we rode 194, Howard's Gap, Tatter Hill, 421, George's Gap, 321, Mast Gap, 194, 184, Hickory Nut Gap Rd, 181 to home!! Great stuff!

BTW a number of the secondary roads had a lot of crap on them. So we took it a bit easy.

So you rode 4 gaps? Excellent! <grin>

Batteries--you AND Marc? Jeez! Isn't it kinda hard to bump-start an FJR? Did his just go out when yall met up? Maybe it caught whatever virus yours had. <muaha> (edit: never mind, I just noticed Marc's battery was dead in his text msg--still quite a coincidence)

Wish I cudda been there....

Gutsy! I did George's Gap last winter and it's an experience I don't care to repeat. The grit they spread on those steep hairpins made them very treacherous. I got feeling a little better around mid day so finished sorting out tire woes on the KLR then took it out for a quick check ride. Back in business.

Great ride guys ! Nice route selection. Yeah bump starting an FJR is a bitch. <dedhrse> I didn't have whole lot of confidence in my front tire either, sliding all over the place and such. So...new battery and mount my new front tire and I'll be set. Sorry we broke off so early, next time we will plan an all day ride. Black Cat Burrito is the heat, and gas included ! Trying to download Ann's pic.hmmmm

Try being the guy pushing it Mark. Lol. You guys missed the best part of today's ride....flying down 181. Turned out to be a 320 mile day for me.
Here are my pictures. Nothing to brag about.
