The local group is Chris Jernigan, Gary Lackey, and Clyde McLaughlin who has a house on the lake near Hickory and a home in Maryland.

Baja, Mexico 2014

Unread postby Bob » Thu Feb 06, 2014 10:20 am

Lee, that "gravel section" climbs up to over 7000 ft, and probably had snow on parts of it--I rode the same road (NF42) from west to east in Feb. 2010 when I spent a month in Sierra Vista, AZ. It felt quite "adventurous" as I was alone on my KLR with no one but my trusty SPOT, and there were NO others to be seen the entire way through there (weekday). NO way I would do it again solo. Hats off to Brick and crew for doing this trek on those heavily loaded pigs with street-biased tires; I was on a little KLR650 running TKC80 street-knobs and still almost lost it a couple times going up some tight switchbacks in the mud. It snows up there every couple weeks and takes forever to melt so the road is muddy where its in the shade.

Chris, sorry you met the mud but looks like no damage was done--I hope!

Since Brick was derelict in his photog duties on this harrowing DS adventure <pissed> , I will post 2 pics that I took on the same run. Thanks to you guys for letting me relive my ride and my whole trip for that matter--I was "watching" in real time as you went thru there. I wanna go back next winter..... <pop> (sorry for the hijack <thrdjckd> )

KEEP 'EM COMING!!

Well we are at a place called The Old Mill at San Quintin... There is a 3 mile dirt/gravel/sand road in/out. If I/we survive it we will re-enter the USA today. An amazing trip so far!

Oh yeah, thats right. Want me to create an album for the ride at the COFSTA photo gallery? Then you could do a bulk upload for all the pics to make it easier, and anyone that you gave the link to could view them online. And then post some more text here in the ride report.
