Lake James to Lake Lure 12-19-13

Unread postby Bob » Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:29 pm

It was a gorgeous sunny day, and a record-setting group--8 bikes and 9 people for lunch at Countryside BBQ in Marion. Welcome to Jeff Ashe & Terri, Ben Ealy, and Chris Jernigan. Hope all you guys will ride again with us!! Oh, almost forgot, we all met at the Halfway and rode Old 18 & 126 to Marion, before lunch. And after lunch we headed southwest down Sugar Hill & Bat Cave Rds, and then Brick led us down Lower Sand Branch Rd. and back across Hickory Nut US74 to Lake Lure. From there we headed east with all the hillbilly's heading back up NC10 for 1 last fling up Old 18. It was a great day for a ride, with great people!! <claps>

Bob thanks for leading another excellent ride. I can't believe that with eight bikes we all stayed together as well as we did. Great roads and great company. Thanks again. Don

Super ride today! I'm so glad y'all made it out, I had a ball!
It was great meeting all!
Ben, Lee and I waited for you at Old 18 and I-40... to be sure you were ok. We didn't have your number to call see if you made it ok. Figured you must have turned off??? It was great to see your post so now I know your not in the ditch somewhere. (Just the mother hen in me I guess)
I think we have our cell numbers on the forum somewhere. ?

Glad to meet you Ben, seems like you will fit in just fine. I was also impressed that no one got lost on the ride today. Glad to meet some folks and put faces to screen names.
Unfortunately, it will be a while before I can get a rear tire on my bike. I toasted it with my ride today, and will probably just wait until the upcoming service to have a new one put on. Too lazy to do it, myself, just for one ride next week. I couldn't pass up 60 degree weather today, or I would have waited. <joecool>

Great ride - talked to Jeff/Teri, they loved it too. Thanks all!

Both of my computers are down (what are the odds!?) so I'm reduced to using my smart phone for at least a couple weeks until repairs are made. This sucks.

Yes it was great meeting Jeff and Terri. Obviously they ride very well!

I too just went through a couple of weeks with only my smart phone. Sucks!

My apologies for worrying y'all. I made it safely I ended up getting stuck being a dump truck in the curviest section of old 18 and well I will admit I'm not very daring on passing in blind curves so I ended up riding his tail for several miles, and yes I did turn off at the Mull Elementary school and headed home. Just a case of bad timing!

It is always better to wait. Never worth it to take the risk when the oncoming traffic is unknown. The nice part about Fall/Winter is you can see through the leafless trees, sometimes.

I agree. I'd rather live to ride with y'all again that try to get around that big ole truck and becoming a hood ornament! Hoping to get out there again before I head back across the state to Greenville.
