Had a great ride. Lee done a good job of keeping us above 3000 feet most of the day. Never really had an issue with the heat until we dropped off 181. Had an okay lunch in Mountain City at Poblanos. Thanks Lee for the Navigation.

Nice route Lee. Glad I headed back early, heat was getting to me. Had a good run up 194 to Banner Elk! <scoot>

We mostly did good but even where we took the afternoon break in Newland at 3600' it was hot. Where I finished in Lenoir it was 91. I think I'm going to wus out and surrender unless temps here in the foothills are forecast in the lower 80s.

Another thing: before the ride ended I got a low battery warning from my Sena 30K. Considering its age, I don't doubt the battery has lost capacity. This situation must be common because I found several articles showing how to replace the battery and lots of batteries on Amazon. Here are a couple...

Great ride. Bob you lucky you missed the 18 wheeler trying to run Greg and I off the road in a passing zone on 181.

Lee, re. the Sena's battery, mine has started running outta juice early also, so I recently started putting it on my tankbag charger during lunch. Did it yesterday. So far it's lasting all day, no more low battery warnings. I think Sena claims a 30 minute charge will buy you 4 hours or so of use.

My Sena 50S battery won’t make it through a ride with y’all. I usually charge it at lunch or while riding.

My Sena also told me low battery coming into Lenior. That's the first time has done that.

I ordered the battery from Amazon and I"ve had this small-stuff tool set for years.

https://www.amazon.com/XOOL-Electronics-Professional-Precision-Screwdriver/dp/B0854JMCSR/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=XOOL%2B58%2Bin%2B1%2BPrecision%2BScrewdriver%2BSet&sr=8-1&th=1

I'll let y'all know how it goes.

I replaced the battery and the Sena is working - so far, so good. Final proof will be the new battery lasting through a dayride. Theoretically, it should do better. Sena's battery was 750mAh, the replacement, 950mAh.
