Scott, Richard and Bob ride. It happened.

Unread postby Bob » Sat Jun 16, 2018 9:15 am

Thurs. June 14: After handling some "paperwork" at Scott's house, the 3 of us headed for the high country to escape the heat and humidity. First off was a run up 181, then the BRP to Bearwallow and then over Seven Mile Ridge to 80. To Burnsville where we lunched on Bubba's delicious burgers. Then up 197 and back down Bee Branch/Jacks Creek/etc ending up at the DECK for ice cream in Micaville. Then Crabtree Creek (awful-gravel/patches/etc) to BRP and up to 181 back to Morganton. Then one last pass on Old 18. A great day to be in the high country away from the heat but awful having to ride thru it back to Charlotte. <whew>

I had the Chicken Stir Fry at Bubba's and it was delish.

Bob which road had those horrific tar snakes. I slid so far sideways I put a foot down at 35 mph?

Otherwise great ride. Good to see Richard again.

Pretty sure that was Crabtree Creek. I'd avoid that one for a while until it gets some work. <yikes>

Edit: the tar snakes on Crabtree were super squishy even in the shade--its the same stuff they put on 226A that time, I believe.

Good seeing you guys. After so many weekends with rain, it was nice to get in 3 days of dry riding.

I agree Crabtree is a mess. They cut the road in 20 places to improve drainage, then did a half ass job resurfacing. THEN did the tar snakes. It’s worse 19E going south

I was tired of dealing with the sand on 19W so to get to Rogersville TN area we took 197 N and much to my surprise the chip seal from a few years ago has been re surfaced with new pavement Weeee!

I wondered what the full-width asphalt patches were for--they were all sunken badly. Our tax dollars at work. <banghd>
