2/9/18 Ride

Unread postby Brick » Fri Feb 09, 2018 7:20 pm

WhaHoo! The day started out a bit cool, 30 degrees but later in the day we saw 60 degrees! Again we rode after rain two days ago and it seems the the roads were washed pretty clean. [THUMBS UP SIGN]
Once again we got lunch at Country Side BBQ in Marion. I certainly don’t mind they have a very good Chicken Spinach salad.
This time we rode up the Mtn on NC-80 and up to NC-19 to Crabtree Rd. We stopped at the Big Lynn Lodge for a break and then across to 181. Like the last time the BRP is mostly closed.
Four of us all on SENA 20S intercoms worked well all day long. Impressive!
We got to Morganton a bit early for us to head home plus we couldn’t allow Bob to have all the fun of old NC-18 so we escorted him. Plus we got to ride most of it back up toward Morganton.
I ended up with 201 miles for the day.
Excellent!

If you didn’t get to ride with us I hope you did get out some.

Lee and Bob took photos... let’s see them boys!

What a fine riding day - a little nip in the air, fun roads - it don't get no better! We had almost no problems with salt and grit in the roads.

Brick led us around the Morganton area from Gate over to Marion for a tasty lunch. We then climbed 80 to the highlands and messed around, eventually heading back down on 181 and back across Morganton to Half Way Hardware. From there we all eventually peeled off for our homes.

Pee stop #1

Was a great day for a ride. Not much traffic for most of the day. I got to ride an FJ-09 for a spell. Umm do I have to have one or not?

Oh, here's my one and only pic from the ride--so nice to ride the high country in early February, the long-range views with the leaves gone are spectacular. <bana>

And thanks to Brick for leading us around--several new-to-me roads. <scoot>
