Scott, Beachy, Oldbutnotdead (Rod), and I met up at the Gate and BSed for a few, then headed out in search of Ssssnakes. We took 181/194/Georges Gap/421 to Mtn City and had another tasty lunch at the Tributary. After lunch we started up the snake and after a brief construction wait (prep for resurfacing?) we headed over to Shady Valley, then up to Damascus and east on US58, over White Top Mtn, back down 194 to 88 and then west on 88 rejoining 421 and retraced our steps back to Morganton. Beachy split off in Shady Valley and took a different route--I think he was feeling stifled at our pace, as his new Versys was doing a good imitation of a super Motard. You 2 guys with the Hyperstrada's better watch out!

The Versys is like a CB500X on steroids. Then again, if I didn't weigh down the X with so much crap, it might accelerate better.

Gonna run the E-bike around town a little later. The joy of 2 wheels!

Watch out for the crafty hoodlums. Small and inconspicuous bikes make for interesting twisty road fun, except when you dress like a hooligan. I suppose Kevlar jeans with knee pucks is more appropriate? Bob, when you gonna jump on the small bike bandwagon? The second one of you guys buys a 500, I'm going down to the Yamaha dealer and picking up the R3.

Its kinda like the reason I sold all of my dirt bikes. If I lived 10 minutes from the twisties like a lot of people I know, I might have a small displacement corner carver in the garage. But that ride from Charlotte to the fun stuff is a killer on a small bike with no weather protection. Maybe someday.....

I have fun on my big bike trying to keep up. I don't, but I have fun trying.

Plus, when it rains hard all day and is 39 degrees...I pretend that the windshield helps.

I agree the versys really to keep up to Spruce Pine in the summer but the fjr will get the call in the winter.

Have you seen my X with Madstad? It provides more protection than any bike I have owned, and probably most convertible cars, but without the heat output of the side mounted VFR radiators. If anything, I will remove the windscreen in the summer because it is far too much "protection." I leave it on because it is adjustable enough that isn't worth the time to remove or risk of limited weather protection (typically with rain). I took it off once last year on a 90 degree local ride and may venture once or twice this summer, but it is doubtful. The VFR actually has better air condition effect via MRA X-creen. As for rain, the VFR doesn't get wet, the rain gets VFR'd.

Its not just the weather protection, I just don't enjoy riding a small naked bike any distance.

I'm no fan of nekid bikes either. My DRZ and me got caught out in the rain yesterday and the after-market windshield makes all the difference.
