Dawn til Dusk Ride - VIR MotoAmerica Race

Unread postby LeeDavis » Mon May 15, 2017 12:03 pm

Note to self: Don't make the 1st ride following crash injury a cross country extravaganza. Idiot, start off easy or YOU WILL SUFFER!

In spite of that lesson learned, Chris, Brick and I had a super fun day ride to VIR near Danville VA and attended the MotoAmerica races which were spectacular.

We met up up at the Hibriton gas station on NC18 shortly after sunrise and took a semi-scenic route to VIR in order to get there without too much screwing around. We arrived in plenty of time to see all the races scheduled for the day - KTM390 spec class, Supersport/Superstock 600cc classes, and Superbike/Superstock 1000cc classes. Plus, checked out all the team pit facilities, chated with a few of the professionals and, of course, ogled the umbrella babes (they sort of mingle around for that purpose). Following the races we used an even less scenic but quicker ride home to finish up a little before sunset.

Here the boys are getting ready to head out in the morning then dressing-for-success in the VIR motorcycle parking area.

The following link is video of the trip. According to Sena instructions their GoPro attachment I have for audio overlay will also record all people on the intercom channel. I've never seen it done for more than one other person and we all know about over-the-top Sena claims but I figured I'd try it. It worked! I made the last video in the sequence with my camera phone and it shows two passes made by the two factory Yamaha and two factory Suzuki race leaders with a surprising independent Kawasaki not far behind.

I use a Sena Bluetooth Pack that fits to the back of my GoPro and pairs to my Sena. It works with the GoPro Hero 3 or Hero 4 but not the Hero 5.

Without waterproof case:

I got the version with waterproof case but never use it. Unless the camera is going to get wet the case adds a lot of bulk to little purpose.

I also took a picture of that Yamalube bike. It wasn't a race contender but it sure was gorgeous. The picture doesn't do justice to the gold metallic paint.

Surely that bike doesn't have a kick-stand..? I don't see a paddock stand and I know Brick isn't holding it up. <bugeye>

Edit: any word on Brick??
