Brick Injured 6_1

Unread postby LeeDavis » Thu Jun 01, 2023 2:02 pm

Brick, Bob and me tried to do a ride but were cut short, barely out of Morganton, when a car pulled out of Frank Whisnant Rd on to 126 in front of Brick. It was bad. Brick at least has a broken leg, probably a broken arm and there could be more.

I was leading and went past 1st with my running lights, and Brick was second with his bright yellow running lights. We were lit up like Christmas trees. The driver who crashed Brick is absolutely ancient - hard to believe he's driving.

The EMT's said they were going to take Brick in their ambulance to a helicopter then flown to Charlotte or Mission Hospital in Asheville.

Brick is in Asheville. He is currently in the OR. The person I spoke with said she thinks they are working on his leg now. She said to give at least 3 hours before calling into the main phone line to the hospital. For Brick you have to use the name “ Trauma Alert Martin”. I don’t know what that is about and if I just screwed up some kind of privacy/security.

Very sorry to hear this. Dave is one of the most solid people I know. I have guests this weekend but would like to be kept updated on his progress and where he needs support.

Thoughts continue for him.

Brick is in room J612 at Mission hospital in Asheville. I called but was not able to find out anything about his condition. I was transferred to his room but no one picked up. I suspect he might be napping a good bit.

I was there for a while today, he's doing well. The right tibia fracture is pretty much it, with a steel rod implanted to keep it intact. He has right shoulder pain that inhibits using his right hand to any extent. And road rash/bruises.

Well an update from Brick himself.
I’ve been relocated to CarePartners an Orthopedic Rehab step down facility at 68 Sweeten Creek Road Asheville. They are kicking my ass every day! I’m scheduled to go home on Saturday the 17th.

I had Tib/Fib fractures with bones sticking through the skin. They fixed the breaks and put a rod and some screws in my leg. They say I have cracked ribs but I don’t feel that at all. I have rotator cuff injury and will get Emerge Ortho to look at fixing it after I’m home. I have no cast or boot the internal rod gives it strength. On top of all those injuries I landed and the EMS worked on me while I lay in poison Oak. Yea it’s all over my back.
It looks like the bike is probably totaled. It has or will be going to Eurosport for final decision.

Todd is or will be working on my house to make it more accessible and livable in my condition.

You can call, text or visit. During the week I have a schedule for OT and PT. I can send that schedule so you can visit while I’m not busy.

I'm changing the saying: "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger" to "What doesn't kill you still hurts like MFer!"
