CG buys Revzilla

Unread postby tireatr » Fri Feb 05, 2016 2:58 pm

I don't know what this means for either, but it I hope it means better gear at CG. I used to buy from CG a lot since my daughter managed a store, but their store offerings went downhill a few years ago. "IF" we start seeing Revzilla quality product offered at their stores, that would be a good thing. I fear though that the Revzilla quality name will be used on "Bilt"type gear and thus ruin the name. Time will tell.

I kinda hate to hear this. I have come to rely on Revzilla service and BROAD selection of quality goods. Yes, Cycle Gear's offerings have been diluted with their private label line of BILT stuff, much of which is substandard, and their website basically just sucks compared to RevZ's.

That being said, consolidation is happening all over the industry. Olympia Motosports was just purchased by a large distribution company (like Tucker Rocky, etc) whose name currently eludes me. The founder & designer, Kevin Rhea, is staying on as "brand manager" for the Olympia division. Hopefully he will continue to control their direction. I really like their stuff--it fits (me) so much better than the "euro-cut" style clothing (Klim, Rev'it, Rukka, etc.)

Interesting take on the deal from an industry insider:

Sounds to be like it's gonna be a good thing for us! <tour>

Wouldn't surprise me if the Bilt gear goes away and the stores replace it with the most popular items from the Web site. I could also see them have a deal where anything on the web site could be delivered to one of the stores within 24 hrs, or even same day, for pick-up.

I would really be surprised if that DIDN'T happen, a la Amazon. Seems like the end game for this merger.

I buy most of my gear from RevZilla and usually enjoy the review videos with Anthony (even though they are super cheesy). Its like being in the store with a competent sales manager who knows about the product, except I can do it from home. It would be nice to have things right away, but that is rarely necessary. I use Amazon Prime, and usually enjoy the $1 Video credit for no rush shipping, 5% cash back with my store card, and watch whatever I want on Prime Video. Then there is Prime Music streaming. Its like Netflix on steroids. A motorcycle store that does this would be awesome. The whole year costs what some people pay for cable in a month (not me) and I haven't set foot in WalMart for many years. I just learned there is a Cycle Gear in nearby Greensboro, but I could care less. If it gets me stuff faster (ie overnight) with little hassle, it is welcome. <icool>
