Feels like winter finally hit, although its still milder than last year. I bet the ski resorts are sucking 'bout now.

Finally got in a few miles after work Thursday. I've been reacquainting myself with Onion county roads as I'll be moving to Wesley Chapel from Gaston County this spring. After 35-40 miles, my sentiments were, ahhhhhh

I rode some new to me trails and went down twice in slick mud on the DRZ last Saturday. Snapped the clutch handle bracket off but made enough repair with zip ties to get home. Parts for a proper fix are suppose to deliver here Tuesday. Other than that just the occasional localish ride on the FJ if it warms up in the afternoon. Winter...whadaya gonna do?

I thought hand guards were supposed to protect clutch and brake levers? You have break-away levers?

No, they were double track trails so plenty of space to pick the bike up. The trails were covered in leaves so you couldn't see the spots of greasy black mud lurking to dump the unaware.
My handguards connect at the clutch bracket...they were part of the problem so I need to do something different.

No pics but here's the area. Lee, what actually touched down to break the bracket--mirror, clutch lever, or your brush guard? I have no guards on my DRZ and doubt there is enough empty space on the bars to mount them because of the windshield brackets....

Bob, The clutch lever bracket is the cheeziest of cast metal so I'd recommend guards. I'm going to redo the handlebar assembly of my bike with 1 1/8" Big Bars that eliminate the cross brace that's on the 7/8" bars. I've ordered the parts - 1 1/8" bars/riser adapters/aluminum and poly hand guards. Hopefully, there'll be enough space for all my stuff.
