Yellow Jackets... DAMN!! Ouch!!

Unread postby Brick » Wed Sep 03, 2014 12:18 pm

Monday while "working" in the yard/woods clearing down sticks/trees I found a dead tall tree and while pushing it over the Yellow Jackets that lived in the ground there took an issue with me. Long story short I got 22 or 23 Yellow Jackets stings. Damn! NO fun at all and I do not recommend this to anyone!!

I'm to the itching like crazy stage of healing! <bugeye> <bugeye> <bugeye>

Dayum! Glad you were not allergic to the stings. Last one I had itched like crazy for about 4 weeks! <yikes>

Gettin' stung is not my idea of a good time, for sure... have you decided how you're going to exact your revenge ~?

Downside of the big chinbar vent on the Shoei... this one didn't make the turn, but some smallish ones will:

Must be a pretty exciting trip, from their reaction

They are aggressive once aroused. A ground nest of them got pissed at me last fall when I trimmed bushes in the front yard. They got in a few stings and chased me all the way around the side of the house, back indoors.

The consensus is to get close enough to determine the exact location of the hole they go in and out. Then just after dark when they all go home take some gasoline and pour it down the hole. It was even suggested to take something like a coffee can with gas and turn it upside down over the hole and leave it there over night. Locals say it works.
On the Internet it says to take a pot if boiling water add Dawn liquid soap and after dark pour it down the hole. Apparently the soap blocks there breathing. I don't suppose the boiling part is good for them either.
I'm leaning toward the gasoline method.

Gasoline = instant death for the varmits. Used it on a wasp nest. Coffee can sounds like good idea too. Be careful.

Have used the gasoline-after-dark approach too, and it's been a winner... just a soaked rag, stuffed into the hole has been sufficient to wipe 'em out overnight.

Just be sure to scout around a little, first- in one experience there was a second entrance to the nest, and my flashlight was a helpful navigation tool for their Department of Defense.
