Saw you mentioned it to Ben on the "no dirt" thread, and that you had some 'in stock'.
I'd read quite a few glowing tales about the stuff and its' superlative properties, but frankly some were from such obvious fanboi types I'd discounted them almost to "snake oil" levels.
You, however I consider to be a serious (mostly) and knowledgeable (definitively) guy regarding such things... so honestly, what aspects of AMSoil sold you on the stuff?
My SV, being water-cooled isn't terribly demanding but the hot-running Bandit punishes motor oils... I run Mobil One in it exclusively, currently has their 'Racing 4T' 10W-40 in the sump.
Your thoughts would be appreciated!

I run AMsoil in my VFR and have not had any issues or problems. It's water cooled but if you know VFRs at all you know they run hot.

Ed, I always try to run good oil. I was somewhere that a friend was an Amsoil dealer he was a chemical engineer for Shell Oil and retired and rides and became an Amsoil dealer. So I tried it and like it... they do have an amazing guarantee but I just like good oil. I am a dealer so I can get it at a better price... I just pass the better price along if you want to order some. I offered Ben to sell him an oil change worth if he comes over for service. Or I can order him a case it two too.

Okiedoke, thanks... I don't scrimp on oil for the bikes either (or in any of our engines, for that matter) but hadn't tried Amsoil or the premium-priced Euro-peein' brands (i.e., Motul).

Have a case of the 4T here to finish up, but will scope out the Amsoil next Primary things I'm looking for are high(-er)(-est) levels of ZDDP, and a lot of temperature/shear stability... the B12 will get north of 270°F in the sump with only modest provocation, and I'd suspect the top of the head runs considerably hotter.

Ever thought about adding a fan to the oil cooler? BMW does that on their oil head police bikes--or DID, prior to becoming water cooled.

Yes, a bunch o' times... but there's just not enough room, even with a small pancake fan and that's the largest cooler I can practically fit. Temps actually stay pretty reasonable (mid 230s to low 240s°F) just riding around... creeps upward to 250° at highway speeds, though which makes me guess the air is simply flowing around (diverted by the front suspension) rather than through the core. I've added fins on either side of the cooler to get the air to hopefully stall somewhat in front of the core, and will fab up some additional ducting... in the end, there's no getting around it being a high-compression engine rather bigger than Suzuki envisioned so it'll never be suited to stop-and-go traffic.

Have a closer look at the space available, next time I drag the thing out. There's no room in front, and anything on the back gets cooked by the header primaries; trust me, plenty of guys have tried computer fans etc etc etc

I wouldn't think computer fans would have near enough output to do anything. These little Dayton fans are pretty powerful. But no help if there's no room. It wouldn't last in the rear, the max ambient operating temp is 158F.

Just one of the factors that makes these older bikes a challenge to tune, but fun if you're a glutton for punishment This is definitely one of my happiest combinations, so I'm really pretty pleased with it... there've been iterations which were faster, but had quirks which got tiresome fairly quickly.
