Picked up my new 2014 SE Super Tenere

Unread postby Brick » Fri May 09, 2014 9:07 pm

Yup it's true I picked it up 59.2 miles ago. And just like when I picked up the 2012 it is rainy and drizzling!

Now to transfer what accessories over to the new one. Then sell the 2012.

Fantastic Brick!! <bana>

Where'd you get it? Was this a "sudden find" or had you been working with the dealer?

I had money with two dealers with the understanding which ever one got a bike first I was buying. I got this from the Statesville, NC dealer. They traded with a dealer somewhere.
As far as having it for STAR... They saddlebag mounts have changed as the added an electrical box where the right front bag mount is. Both SW-Moto and Givi say it will be June/July before they have a mount made.

Yea, I was told, on the Temere forum, that they didn't fit. I also called Givi inCharlotte they also said they didn't fit. Sure am glad they were wrong!

Is the new bike a matt black as opposed to gloss on the old one? Almost looks steel grey...whatever it looks good.

Sounds about right. The FJR forum is 50/50 good info versus anecdotal BS. Good luck with the rest of it.

I know you've ridden it--how about a comparison vs the old bike? Inquiring minds and all that. .... <grin>

You could at least rub in the cruise control for us in the throttlemeister crowd lol.

Yes I now have roughly 400 miles on it and its just like the old one... just better. Oh the cruise control is super smooth and really works well. I've not used it much because I believe while breaking in a new motor you shouldn't lug it, keep it at one speed and well don't hit the rev limiter just yet. It does sit up a bit more, 10mm up and back according to the specs. All the additional controls are very nice. There is so much to it I've not figured it all out yet! I've read the the owners manual that I can rearrange the items on the display screens. I will be doing that. The suspension also has lots of adjustments too. I can change from Soft to Standard to Hard on the fly. All the other adjustments like spring preload and front compression and rebound damping you must have the bike on but not in motion. There is an obvious change in the Touring and Sport mode too. Touring seems to have more engine braking than before AND off the line it's very smooth. Sport mode is more so... Seems to have more zip and a bunch less engine braking. When I rode Fred's Super T with the $450 re flash it had almost no engine braking in Sport mode. The new windscreen seems better but I had the wind wings on my old one and really like them. I've read that they don't fit on the 2014 because of the new windscreen. I WILL try them myself. There is a new p/n for both the wind wings and Yamaha's skid plate. I will try my skid plate to see if it fits before I buy new. It came with Bridgestone Battle Wings. Not sure I like them yet. More later...

Sounds like good stuff. Yamaha is doing some nice things lately - major revisions to the Tenere, FJR and the new FZ-09. They might even get me going with enough new bike envy to buy one, one of these days.
