Well it’s time I fess up…

I had taken my 2020 GS with 46,434 miles to Eurosport for the vent in the driveshaft housing. They automatically just replaced my driveshaft because of the miles. Ok… that went well!

Jim Toner had his GSA over there to replace some damage sustained in his fall down on ice.

So Todd got his new set of rims for his GS mounted with new Road 6 tires and wanted to have the TPS monitors synced with these mag wheels with road tires.

So Saturday January 29 Todd hooked up Dan’s Kendon trailer to his wife’s Escalade and loaded his bike. The three of us rode over and unloaded Todd’s bike and loaded my bike. Jim had some accessories for Eurosport to install so his bikes stayed. We were still in Asheville going to Moe’s for BBQ not going fast and Todd suddenly says, I don’t see the bike anymore! Coming to a stop I feel and hear my bike kind of bumping around back there. We get out and see Image
Oh Hell!!! The left strap has snapped!!!

A AFD truck was going past in the opposite direction and stopped and actually picked my bike up and we loaded it back on the trailer! This time we used straps that Jim had bought.

We immediately drove my bike back to Eurosport and unloaded it.

First picture at 11:08… unloaded at Eurosport at 11:30.

Went to drink beer!

At 5:30 pm still Saturday I get a call from Gary Cox at Eurosport and he has both questions and a preliminary estimate.

First… estimate! $9,500! …. WHOA!!!

Questions… 1) rear wheel has two scratches were they there before? Yes… self inflicted during a tire change. That’s $2,000 off estimate.
2) there is a minor scratch on fork tube that will not be seen when reassembled. Not a problem for me. That’s another $1,000 off estimate.

Final estimate $6,4xx.00!

Called insurance co!

They were great! Easy it was all electronic and all the money is already in my checking account. Oh minus my $500 deductible!

I drove over to Eurosport yesterday to see disassembled bike. It truly shows how damn expensive BMW parts are. The labor part is only $1,100 of the total!

I can’t seem to add any more pictures but will try later.

Oh man I HATE that. Hurts to look at it. I have always tried to use 2 straps on each side, although I'm always thinking "they have never broke before and never will, this is just an extra hassle". But now I know...... <bugeye> (cudda been just a "little" worse at 70MPH on I-40)

Two things, WOW and sorry this happened, but it seems you have this all under control with insurance.
