Jeez, BMW gettin to be a PITA. Guess I'll wait a little longer for the NEXT recall so I can kill 3 birds with one stone.

Well Sean at Eurosport says that he has heard about this “possible” recall from another customer. It’s way too early… until they hear something from BMW it’s not real!

Are you saying that ANOTHER recall besides this one is coming, or are you talking about the one you just mentioned?

I do find it interesting that the concern is a failure of the input shaft in the trans, causing catastrophic damage, locking up the shaft to the rear wheel. Solution is a ECU update ?? Are they detuning the engine to produce less power ? How about issuing a stronger input shaft! Bizarre cause and effect solution.

I'm guessing it involves the Quick Shifter, which is controlled by the ECU in how it responds. The QS function on my 2020 GS is very stiff, sometimes requiring very excessive pressure to make it shift without using the clutch. I'm thinking the ECU update might improve the functionality. It might shorten or lengthen the injector-cut interval. Who knows. But knowing BMW, its a crap shoot. Might make it stiffer.

But if BMW is recalling something, you can be assured it has already caused some mayhem somewhere.

As a side note, the QS on the K1600's is like butter.

That’s a good possibility. Maybe soften the intervals of the injectors. We did a test ride at the local dealer on the K1600. I asked about the quick shift and the Rep said “ just hold the throttle wide open on up shifts as you enter the interstate ”. You’re right. Smooth as butter and extremely fast !

Marc, thinking about getting one? I loved my K1600B, dunno why I got rid of it! Might get another K1600 version, who knows. But as soon as you're rolling, all the weight disappears. Great handling, very well sorted.

Nah we were just riding to see how they feel. We tested the K1600GTl, very stable riding and tons of power, and the R18 Grand. The R18 felt very heavy in the parking lot but rode well on the open road. Completely different rides. Both complex machines. I am disappointed BMW dashboard electronics are not as advanced as their Japanese counterparts.
