New pavement

Unread postby tireatr » Wed Jun 02, 2021 6:32 pm

New pavement on Arbuckle road. 19E to NC80. They are getting ready to do 226 from Bakersville to Red Hill. Below is a site of all the planned resurfacing and restoration projects 2019-2023. Use your PC/Laptop to see the legend. I can’t see the legend of year planned on my phone. I am excited to see the last two sections on Paint Fork from Beech Glenn to Burnsville completely in the next two years. One of my favorite roads and I ride it often.

Good information.
Reminds me of 1999 when I moved here. I wanted to buy land on the highest paved road on the Morganton side of the mountain. I found the planning office and they had a county map on the wall marked with plans of when certain roads would be paved. Right there on the plans Rose Creek road was to be paved in two years. Today 22 years later Rose Creek is still gravel. [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY][FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] But current paved roads with spray painted markings definitely do get repaved. [THUMBS UP SIGN]

More new pavement. TN 173 from TN 107 ( Iron Mtn road) to 19E. Only 7 miles, but oh so nice!

New asphalt on NC 226; first section from Loafers Glory to Red Hill. Second section from north of Buladean to the TN line aka Iron Mtn Road. Looks like they might also be ready to do 226A from Ledger to Loafers Glory.

They have also marked up Huntdale rd from Huntdale to 19W. Soon I hope. That section of road has become very bad.

The top half of Hwy 80 was brand new ( with poorly painted lines) when we went up last week with Bob. Very sticky! <rdr>

New asphalt on Schronce creek road in western Yancey county. Also new asphalt on the TN side of 19W. Of course we still have to ride the suspect NC side of 19W to enjoy it

Took the BRP last week towards Newland but it was gated at Bear Den Campground. Turning north onto Humpback Mtn road I discovered it had been resurfaced all the way to Altapass eels. Woot!
