Copied from ADVrider.com--I'm gonna take a test ride.
===============================================

There's a lot to like about the H-D Pan America compared to a BMW GS.

Kevin Cameron (Cycle World) did a nice post-reveal article about it:

https://www.cycleworld.com/story/bikes/ ... EH710jmbh4

H-D did their homework and I like this bike.

________________

150 HP 503 lbs $17k base model

Hydraulic adjusters, no valve service needed

Slip-in cylinders to permit big bore kits for greater HP

Continuously variable valve timing

Active suspension models can be set to lower suspension automatically when stopping to help riders with short legs

Crank pins staggered to produce a 90 degree firing order like Ducati or Guzzi

Several options on panniers

Aluminum gas tank, avoided plastics where possible

Most of the features of the premium competition

American made with phenomenal dealer access

"There's a lot to like about this machine. I've never understood why the Europeans haven't eliminated the valve service issue.
I am also surprised that the other manufacturers haven't thought about the dropping suspension when stopping feature. I have
long legs but many people avoid these tall suspension bikes because they cannot safely reach the ground.

The maxed-out version of the Pan America that I will want will probably top $23-24k with aluminum panniers and curb weight will
creep with up accordingly but all of that still comes in at or below a similarly equipped GS.

I've had 6 BMW GS bikes but this H-D will probably be my next Adventure machine."

Yeah, I know, kind of a deal killer too. And now I see that 505 weight is actually 535 running weight. Still, 150HP on a "big v-twin", could be entertaining lol....... <fonda>

But...its BUTT ugly. <barf>

Gonna put straight pipes and ape hangers on it? <grin>

The stats sound pretty good and no valve checks/adjustments sounds great but it is unpleasant to look at.

But it gets worse---reading further in the article, that 535 lbs running weight was for the base model without the stuff most people would want. The loaded model is 565 lbs. <BS>

Whatcha wanna bet that BMW starts offering that "automatic-ride-height-lowering-when-stopped" feature on 2022 models....? Maybe even make it a retro-install on 2021's....?

Difficult to imagine they would let the MOCO get the jump on them for something like this.
