Lately, I've been up to my elbows figuring out and setting up an electric mountain bike (eMTB). Even with many good reviews I didn't make the purchase without hesitation but I'm happy to say the bike exceeds expectations.

Here 'tis.

The switch on the left controls everything and the center display shows much stuff.

I uploaded a short video to Youtube ridng on hard surface, then gravel, then trail.

Pretty cool. That last trail was def not a place for a full blown moto. Well if you're *good* it would be. But I ain't. I could hear the motor kick in each time you wanted a boost, so sounds like you pedaled quite a bit. Where was the dirt?

Unless I'm coasting the system is mostly assisting my pedaling. The motor is torque actuated by the amount of pressure on the pedals. When you hear it kick in it's because I applied additional pressure so it added more power in response. The +/- keys on the control switch to the left side of the second picture vary the amount of help on the fly in increments from 0 to 5 as displayed on the lcd screen. 0 is no help; 5 will climb the steepest incline with almost no pedaling effort. There's also a throttle control that powers the bike with no pedaling.

Motor assist is smooth and often transparent. I didn't realize how much it was helping until I was riding along and changed the assist to 0.

All of the video was shot on the Lenoir Greenway which I pick up less than a mile from my house. The more rugged mountain bike trail an extension to the greenway called Zack's Fork Mountain Trail. It's all within Lenoir city limits. https://www.google.com/maps/@35.9408039,-81.5214317,17z

Is the throttle control variable or an ON-OFF type?

It's variable. A full power start would wheelie then loop the bike and rider over backwards. Electric motors generally have a lot of torque and this is no exception.

I guess around 30mph but the tires, gearing and mountain bikes in general aren't designed for speed.
