Rides

Unread postby Bob » Fri Oct 12, 2018 12:51 pm

I will probably be missing a few of the upcoming rides for a while. Jan has been in the hospital for 8 days with a staph bloodstream infection which is proving quite difficult to treat. I have "lived" at the hospital for the past week or so and will continue until she is free of infection and discharged. Yall have fun--the weather is freakin gorgeous now.

Sorry to hear that. Hope Jan gets well soon. It was a little sketchy today. A lot of wet roads in the am.

Thanks all for the well wishes. I *think* she is responding to the new antibiotic she started yesterday--keeping fingers crossed. Still a ways to go.

Beachy, sorry to hear about your episode--was that a bloodstream infection (septicemia) that started as a UTI? I know that is a frequent source for these things.

Just an update: today Jan was discharged from Presbyterian Hosp with a new aortic valve and aorta graft, after a dicey 8 hour open heart procedure. Today was 4 weeks to the day from when she was first admitted to CMC with a staph infection. The staph settled in her prosthetic aortic valve (installed in 2012) and basically destroyed it (endocarditis). She was extremely lucky to have survived this, another day or 2 and she'd be a goner. Fortunately her heart and vascular system is strong. Now she has 6 more weeks of self-administered I-V antibiotics thru a PICC line to completely zap the staph. Don't ever get a staph infection. <olfart>

Thanks for all the well-wishes. <wave> I hope to be back on the road soon.

That's good she's on the mend. I'll insist the staphs stay away from me.
